iPhone 8 (Plus) and iPhone X – Opinion

I have not spent much time in the consumer end of the technology market in the last few years due to my enterprise role I currently have, but did manage to follow the developments leading to the release of Apple’s new products yesterday.

I still remember 10 years ago. I was living in New York City, and Apple had announced that they were making a smart phone. Even with the success of the classic ipod (not so classic at the time), it was hard to imagine what the new phone would look like. I remember people posting online (pre-reddit?) mockups of what it would look like. Basically, it was suppose to look like an iPod with a slightly bigger screen and all the other things needed to make it a phone. Various mockups can be found here. The mockup I remember the most, is the third one; the Blackberry look alike.

OSX 10.8.4 Upgrade

Posted on 10th June 2013

Apple release the 10.8.4 update to it’s popular operating system a few days ago. The fixes in this version are fairly minor with no extra edits needed on the Hackintosh project. The AppleHDA driver was replaced in the upgrade, so applying the sound driver from MultiBeast was necessary to get audio to work on the on-board chipset. Download the latest version of MultiBeast here (login required).

Details on what is included in the update since 10.8.3 can be found here. The update can be downloaded through the App Store.

As always, running a system update on non-apple hardware is not always 100% bullet proof. Make sure that you have another way to boot the system if something goes wrong. Multibeast may be needed on your setup.

Hackintosh 10.8.2 Upgrade

Apple has released yet another update to it’s popular OSX operating system. Is there any coincidence that they released this around the same time that iOS6 hits the mobile devices? The answer is no. With Passport, Facebook, and Twitter integration, it only makes sense to add these features to their computer operating system as well. See the official Apple changelog for the full list of details here.

As for updating your custom-built hackintosh, eveything should go through ok, but always make sure that you have an alternative way to boot the system in case something goes wrong. You can download this update from the Software Update app or download the official combo update from Apple’s website over here.

State of the Apple iPhone 5

Today, Apple announced the iPhone 5 to the masses. Pre-orders will start on the 14th with general sales starting on the 21st. The new iPhone is priced at $199 for the 16Gb, $299 for the 32Gb, and $399 for the 64Gb. We will also see the iPhone 4s drop to $99 for the 16Gb model. These prices are if you sign the 2-year commitment with the cellular provider.

What are some of the new features of the new device? What sets this model aside from the others? What does this mean to all of us with a smartphone already? What sets this model aside from the others? Has Apple become bland in cool new features?
