AT&T Launches LTE in Columbus, Oh

Posted on November 16, 2012

AT&T announced earlier this year, that will will have their LTE service launched before the end of the in multiple markets. One of those was here in Columbus, Oh. Since the iPhone 5 has been in my pocket, I have enjoyed a fairly fast hspa+ network. Today, The LTE network was activated.

The network does not yet seem to be at full speed as I have seen around 30-50 Mbps in other markets. Speedtest.net shows around 20 Mbps this morning.

All in all, LTE is live. Now if only AT&T would make Internet FaceTime a no pay option, we all would be set. Sprint’s turn soon? Who knows.

Weeks with the iPhone 5

Posted on November 11, 2012

I have been using the white iPhone 5, 64Gb on AT&T for about 6 weeks. In this time, I have been able to get a good handle on how this device works.  There are a few likes and dislikes about this phone compared to the iPhone 4. This includes the fabled new maps application, find my friends, and widescreen retina display.

Hackintosh 10.8.2 Upgrade

Posted on September 21, 2012

Apple has released yet another update to it’s popular OSX operating system. Is there any coincidence that they released this around the same time that iOS6 hits the mobile devices? The answer is no. With Passport, Facebook, and Twitter integration, it only makes sense to add these features to their computer operating system as well. See the official Apple changelog for the full list of details here.

As for updating your custom-built hackintosh, eveything should go through ok, but always make sure that you have an alternative way to boot the system in case something goes wrong. You can download this update from the Software Update app or download the official combo update from Apple’s website over here.

Mountain Lion 10.8.1 Update

Posted on September 4, 2012

Apple has rolled out it’s first major update of 10.8 Mountain Lion. This release is quite small and weighs in at around 44Mb. The great news for those of us running custom hardware is that there is no major kexts that are replaced. So there is no real need to update your collection of kexts, but you should always make sure that you have a solid backup prior to installing or restarting when you are notified to restart.

Apple Update Available

Apple Update is requesting a restart.

Once you have a solid backup of the system, you can now restart and see. On my mackintosh, there was no issues. The system resumed normal operation. You can head over to tonymacx86 for more information on the update.

Remember to never restart your Hackintosh until you have confirmed if you need to replace any kexts with future updates from Apple.
