Weeks with the iPhone 5

Posted on 11th November 2012

I have been using the white iPhone 5, 64Gb on AT&T for about 6 weeks. In this time, I have been able to get a good handle on how this device works.  There are a few likes and dislikes about this phone compared to the iPhone 4. This includes the fabled new maps application, find my friends, and widescreen retina display.

Hackintosh 10.8.2 Upgrade

Apple has released yet another update to it’s popular OSX operating system. Is there any coincidence that they released this around the same time that iOS6 hits the mobile devices? The answer is no. With Passport, Facebook, and Twitter integration, it only makes sense to add these features to their computer operating system as well. See the official Apple changelog for the full list of details here.

As for updating your custom-built hackintosh, eveything should go through ok, but always make sure that you have an alternative way to boot the system in case something goes wrong. You can download this update from the Software Update app or download the official combo update from Apple’s website over here.

State of the Apple iPhone 5

Today, Apple announced the iPhone 5 to the masses. Pre-orders will start on the 14th with general sales starting on the 21st. The new iPhone is priced at $199 for the 16Gb, $299 for the 32Gb, and $399 for the 64Gb. We will also see the iPhone 4s drop to $99 for the 16Gb model. These prices are if you sign the 2-year commitment with the cellular provider.

What are some of the new features of the new device? What sets this model aside from the others? What does this mean to all of us with a smartphone already? What sets this model aside from the others? Has Apple become bland in cool new features?

Mountain Lion 10.8.1 Update

Posted on 4th September 2012

Apple has rolled out it’s first major update of 10.8 Mountain Lion. This release is quite small and weighs in at around 44Mb. The great news for those of us running custom hardware is that there is no major kexts that are replaced. So there is no real need to update your collection of kexts, but you should always make sure that you have a solid backup prior to installing or restarting when you are notified to restart.

Apple Update Available

Apple Update is requesting a restart.

Once you have a solid backup of the system, you can now restart and see. On my mackintosh, there was no issues. The system resumed normal operation. You can head over to tonymacx86 for more information on the update.

Remember to never restart your Hackintosh until you have confirmed if you need to replace any kexts with future updates from Apple.

Hackintosh Mountain Lion Upgrade

Posted on 20th July 2012

As the impending release of OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion is near, it is also time to make sure that we are ready to install Apple’s new OS onto our custom Intel hardware. We will cover the in-place upgrade from OSX Lion 10.7.4 to the GM(Final) release of OSX Mountain Lion.

This procedure has been confirmed to work with the official release of Mountain Lion in the App Store.

A clean install of Mountain Lion will not be covered in this article, but you can refer to this site which will walk you through a clean install. A clean install is great if you want to start from scratch, but for the rest of us with a lot of data, read on.

Tonymacx86 has released Unibeast for Mountain Lion which can be used to perform a clean install.
